The project NONARCADICS -Non Physical Violence in the Arcadia- aims to complement VIOLENDINGS by analyzing the representation of symbolic, psychological, structural and cultural violence in the pastoral novels, and aims to extend the corpus studied in VIOLENDINGS by including the analysis of the work that gave rise to this genre: Iacopo Sannazaro’s Arcadia (1504) and its influence on the representation of social conflicts in the Spanish works.
Violence, as an exercise of abuse of power, depends on concrete historical and social structures. Among all possible types of violence, non-physical is the most dependent of these structures. The contribution of NONARCADICS is the study of violence beyond the limits of physical aggression in this ‘idealistic’ literary tradition.
